I met Cody and Jake while living in California and I remember Cody telling me she was going to hire me for her wedding one day. Well fast forward a handful of years to a lovely September day in Buena Vista, Colorado where Cody and Jake were about to tie the knot! I’m excited to share some amazing photos from their ceremony at The Barn at Sunset Ranch and their epic reception and dance party at The Surf Hotel.
Getting Ready
The couple got ready at The Surf Hotel which is also where the reception was taking place. Our team stayed there as well and I’m happy to report that it’s one of the cutest boutique hotels I’ve ever been to! With coffee shops, breweries and hikes nearby, there’s a ton to do in between wedding festivities.
Ceremony at the Barn at Sunset Ranch
While you can certainly host your ceremony at The Surf Hotel, Cody and Jake had their heart set on an open range site called the Barn at Sunset Ranch. The ceremony site had the most amazing mountain view surrounded by nothing but open fields. A perk for us planners was that the arch and benches were already built-in so we could focus on setting up the decor elements like the signage and florals.
Wedding Portraits with the Collegiate Peaks
We always make sure to time the ceremony in a way that portraits happens the hour surrounding sunset for that “golden light”. What you don’t see here is that there were some scary rain clouds hovering around us but we got a break just in time for some newlywed photos!
Don’t be afraid to have fun during your photo session! Grab a drink (our team always makes sure to bring one to you after the ceremony) and let loose. This always makes for fun photos that you’ll definitely want to hang on your wall.
Reception at The Surf Hotel
Once the marriage license was signed, the couple and their guests headed back to The Surf Hotel for cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. With it being the end of September in the mountains, the team at The Surf Hotel lit the outdoor fireplace for us and it was the coziest little spot to hang out during cocktail hour.
After guests indulged in a delicious taco bar for dinner, Cody and Jake cut the cake and opened up the dance floor with a Hora Dance. Their DJ had the best lights for this dance party and with the addition of the disco ball, he had the crowd dancing within seconds!
