Intimate Wedding in Montreal with Geode Cake

So you're having an intimate wedding in Montreal? Lucky you! A while back I had the pleasure of doing a styled shoot with some talented wedding vendors in my hometown of Montreal, Quebec. The shoot was picked up and featured on The Perfect Palette but I wanted to post some of the photos here and hope they give you some ideas for your upcoming intimate wedding or elopement! I'm especially excited for you to see the geode cake!

The Ceremony

Vendors and our adorable bohemian couple came together at a cute (and very Quebecois) restaurant called Les Fillettes located in the heart of Montreal. The patio is absolutely perfect for a small ceremony up to 25 guests. I would recommend also serving a nice glass of champagne for everyone to enjoy while you say your "I Dos".

Let's talk about this ceremony backdrop for a hot second. Joy from Imagine Joy handmade this incredible wedding ceremony scroll which is basically a giant script with the couple's vows and love poems on it. Seriously stunning! What a great way to personalize a ceremony. I would also encourage couples to keep this and somehow incorporate it into their home design after the wedding.

The Table Top Design

We were really feeling inspired by tie dye for this wedding design. Believe it or not, I tie dyed these napkins myself! It was surprisingly easier than I thought. Maybe I can do a tutorial on it someday. Anyway, We wanted to bring in some woodsy elements like the wooden plates and pieces of ferns to decorate each place setting. I really like how it turned out. It has a really cozy yet boho vibe to it, don't you think?

The Dress & Suit

We wanted our bride and groom to look boho but not hobo! Our bride was wearing a gorgeous boho wedding gown with a front slip. We also added a fun hair piece and a hand chain to spice things up. Our handsome groom was in a dark navy suit and white shirt. We skipped the tie to make him feel more casual but added a spiky blue boutonniere for a little pizzaz.

The Geode Cake

No wedding is complete without a little sugar. This couple had one of the coolest geode cakes I've ever seen! This indigo and gold crystal cake has me drooling! At the same time, it's almost too pretty to touch. We topped it off with a "Cheers" cake topper and continued the celebration.

Hope this provided you with some fun boho inspiration for your own wedding!

Best Boho Wedding Inspiration

It's no secret that boho weddings are our speciality. We've been lucky to plan these laid-back festival-style weddings all over the world and we wanted to give you a round up of some of our favorites. Today, we're sharing our Best Boho Wedding Inspiration with you and we hope you enjoy!

Camp wedding at under canvas moab

I'm sure you've seen these incredible photos of WeddingChella float around the internet by now. This 4-day wedding festival took place at Under Canvas Moab and was #weddinggoals for generations of brides and grooms to come! With live bands, all-you-can-eat snack bars and a DIY beer tap wall this boho wedding was the ultimate dream. See the more photos here and on Green Wedding Shoes. Photos by Laura Goldenberger

Modern Boho Wedding

Long table with green and amber glasses and modern minimalist florals

This wedding took place at Rimrock Ranch in Joshua Tree, CA. While the venue naturally has an eclectic boho vibe to it, the couple wanted to modernize it a bit and so we did! With florals that were more like live art and a food service that resembled a show, guests were in for a treat at this modern boho wedding. See the full blog post here! Photos by Olivia and Dan

Edgy Boho Wedding

Edgy boho wedding sweetheart table with floral half moon arch

A little bit of pretty mixed with a little bit of badass, I bring you the best edgy boho wedding! We're obsessed with this alternative wedding that took place at Matteis Tavern in Los Olivos, CA. The couple want their reception to feel less formal and more like a big party. As their wedding planners, we were up for the challenge and decided to sprinkle a mix of long tables as well as tall cocktail tables. Guests weren't assigned seats which made for a really fun party-feel reception! Photos by Pretty Branch.

Ooh la la did this group have a good time! With a live band under the stars and unlimited food and drinks, guests will talk about this wedding for years to come. Photos by Lauren Mihae. Smoky Mountains Wedding at Under Canvas

We're told that Fall in the Great Smoky Mountains is something everyone must see at least once in their lifetime. Well, we were lucky enough to get hired as the Wedding Planning team for a KILLER festival-style wedding at Under Canvas Smoky Mountains and got to experience the Smokies in all of their Fall glory! Let's jump into Annabelle & Paul's gorgeous fall wedding in the Great Smoky Mountains!

'This blog contains affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, I'll receive a small commission at no additional cost to you!'

The Wedding Welcome Party

Something we love doing is encouraging our couples to host a welcome party the day instead of a formal rehearsal dinner. This allows all guests to join in on the fun, have a cocktail and feast on something a little more casual but just as delicious such as tacos. It's a great way to have your guests meet each other before the big day and start the party early! This is the perfect time to gift each guest with a welcome bag full of helpful essentials for your adventurous wedding.

Wedding Planner Tip: This is the first event of the weekend and a perfect time to set the tone! Want to decorate but not waste flowers? Add some centerpieces that can be repurposed on the wedding day around cocktail lounges, the bar or even a photobooth!

The Wedding Morning

After a solid night of welcome festivities, everyone enjoyed a cozy sleep in their glamping tents on-site. Each tent has a comfy bed, lounge chairs and even their own wood burning stove. Some of the larger tents even have their own bathrooms which comes in handy as a "getting ready" tent for the couple. Annabelle and Paul treated their guests to breakfast burritos and coffee before people headed off on hikes or just enjoyed a relaxing moment around camp.

Wedding Planner Tip: We recommend that you schedule a wedding morning yoga session to kick off the day. This will get your blood flowing, calm your jitters and help you get the day started on the right foot.

The Wedding Ceremony + Details

I've dreamt of these details ever since we got this wedding gallery back! The bouquet alone is the perfect representation of fall. The invitations are simple but boho and modern all at once. The overall warm tones of this weddings just makes my soul happy! The ceremony was almost like a piece of art. The girls over at Lang Floral Designs knocked this boho pampas grass ceremony design out of the park!

Wedding Planner Tip: Something we've found to be very helpful for our festival-style or weekend-long weddings is when couples provide a printed itinerary in their welcome bags. That along with a few local hot spots their guests should visit is always appreciated!

A Smoky Mountain Party

After the gorgeous ceremony surrounded by trees, guests were invited inside the main teepee for cocktails, appetizers and music! Creating a timeline that seamlessly flows for your wedding day takes practice. Good news! Our lead planners have created a guide full of the pro-tips to create your perfect timeline. This way, you can have a celebration as great as this day!

A full southern BBQ meal was for dinner with unlimited wine on the tables. The reception decor was just as gorgeous as the ceremony. We designed it to feel intimate but also family-style. We decorated long wooden tables with bud vases filled with pampas grass and flowers. Each place setting had simple white plates and a mustard yellow napkin for that pop of color.

Wedding Planner Tip: Don't forget to think about your meal style when planning your table decor. For example, if you're doing family-style, you'll want to make your centerpieces smaller like bud vases to leave room for the platters. Doing plates? Rent some chargers to add a little pizzaz to your place settings!

What it Takes to be a Boho Bride or Groom

I think at this point in the game, it's pretty obvious that our team produces a ton of boho desert weddings. We team up with Under Canvas a lot and we could not be more thankful for that partnership. When we are working in the desert, our team tends to talk a lot about how our clients are the ideal glamping couple. They tend to be very calm with whatever is thrown their way and always have a great time. If you're trying to decide if you'd enjoy your time out in the desert for your wedding weekend, here’s a quick list for what it may take to be the perfect glamping bride or groom:

Bride in Grace Loves Lace dress with cape and groom in light grey suit at Rimrock Ranch in Joshua Tree

You are going to have friends & family staying on the same property for the weekend, it’s impossible to please everyone but we've found ways to work around it. One being, the first night we suggest you keep it semi mellow so everyone is well rested for the big wedding day.  We aren't saying don't have fun but a welcome dinner with cocktails is the best bet! We recently did a wedding that had live acoustic music and that was a huge hit. On the actual wedding day you should consider setting a curfew for outdoor amplified music. Once it hits midnight, we suggest moving indoors (if possible) or turning the volume down a bit. We also found that a welcome kit equipped with earplugs can go a long way. It’s your day so you make the judgement call!

Bride and groom first dance at Rimrock Ranch in Joshua Tree. Desert wedding with groom in light grey suit and bride in Grace loves Lace dress with wings

All wedding planners would love for their couples to go with the flow but it is a completely different ballgame when you are playing in the desert for the weekend. It’s important to remember that we are up against Mother Nature. The desert can bring wind, rain, heat & cold all within the same month! With the weather being wildly unpredictable, it is important you are able to trust Plan A and Plan B. You will want to keep a close eye on the weather 2 weeks prior to your big day. Pending what Siri is showing you on the forecast, you may have to move the ceremony indoors, order a last minute tent or, our personal favorite, push everything back a bit and see what happens. You never know, you could get lucky two of our desert couples end up with a double rainbow during your ceremony!

We suggest you ditch the heels and go with some comfortable boots for your glamping wedding! You will feel more confident and definitely more comfortable. As we mentioned, the weather can be unpredictable so make sure you check the weather and pack a cute jacket to go along with your wedding attire just in case you need it.

As always, we highly suggest you don’t tackle your glamping wedding alone. It is important you find the right event planning team to help your desert dreams come true! Read more about that topic HERE

Intimate Nashville Wedding at Arrington Vineyards

Erin and Charlie thought they wanted a big boho wedding in Malibu until they realized that really wasn't for them. Instead of the big 150-person wedding, these two lovebirds decided to elope! They invited their 10 closest family members and their dog, Mister, to join them for their intimate Nashville Wedding. If this sounds like your dream wedding, schedule a free consultation call with our team so we can help you plan!

The Details

A small wedding doesn't mean you can't have any cool details! Check out these incredible custom hats the bride and groom got from Meshika Hats! The bride's bouquet was also to die for. Since this wedding happened around the holidays, it was fun to see bright pops of red throughout the wedding decor.

If you're just getting started with your wedding planning journey, the first question we always get is "how much do adventurous weddings cost?" Well, everyone has their unique vision of their dream wedding but we put a free Wedding Budget Guide together to help you get an idea of what a boho adventurous wedding might cost.

As a wedding planner, I really enjoy setting up for these small weddings. First of all, clients have the flexibility of going pretty much anywhere in the world. Second, you can splurge on decor, florals and food because you're not spending on as many guests. Lastly, I get to spend a lot of 1:1 on time with the couples and their families which really makes my job fun.

In this particular case, I was in close contact with the bride's mom. In fact, a funny story is that Laura was the first person to text me months later when my husband and my episode of Tiny House Hunters was live on TV! I had no idea it had aired until I got her text. So fun!

The Ceremony

Winter weather in Nashville is pretty unpredictable. This particular time around it was actually quite chilly. With a little rain on the horizon we decided to have the ceremony outside but under the covered patio. Turned out pretty dang cute. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a large charcuterie board, wine from Arrington Vineyards and good conversation.

Wedding Planner Tip: I always encourage couples to repurpose their ceremony florals. You can easily clip them down and place them on a bar or around your band, photobooth or dessert table! Be sure to let your florist know that you'll be repurposing the flowers so they can assemble them accordingly.

Intimate wedding reception in Nashville

One of the pros about only having 10 people attend your wedding is that you get to hang out and talk to everyone during cocktail hour and dinner. Family photos don't take up more than 15 minutes and you have the rest of the night to sit back and enjoy being in good company. After sipping local wines and feasting on cheeses of all sorts, the newlyweds, dog of honor and their guests sat down for a special 4-course meal prepared by The Chef and I.

And as it turns out, an intimate Nashville wedding was exactly what they wanted. Now, a few months later I found out they adopted another dog and are living happily ever after as a family of 4 in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Loved this intimate wedding as much as we did? Check out this 35-person Scotland Wedding next.

P.S Did you know we have a Facebook group dedicated to Nashville Weddings & Elopements? Come join us whether you're a couple or wedding vendor, the more the merrier. Of course, if you want a 1:1 chat with one of our local wedding planners, we'd love to hear about your dream wedding vision. Schedule a call with us!

Glamping Wedding at Moab Under Canvas

You probably hear us talking about Under Canvas weddings all the time on Instagram BUT we've never really blogged about them. Well today is the day! We're giving you a glimpse inside what it's like to have a wedding at Under Canvas Moab. Ready to get blown away with this wedding inspiration? Keep reading!

bride and groom kiss in the desert at under canvas moab

Let's start by saying that Becca and Sander spent a year and a half planning this wedding all while Becca was attending NYU for Interior Design. This venue is spectacular in itself but in order to produce a 4-day wedding for 160 guests, it takes an experience wedding planning team (oh hi!) and a lot of coffee!

Wedding planner tip: If you are planning your own multi-day wedding, we can still help you out even if we aren't there with you. Our lead planners have created a step by step guide to help you create your perfect wedding timeline! We've added "pro tips" and given you a real example of what a wedding timeline should look like.

After guests checked into their gorgeous accommodations, we opened up the dining area and had long wooden tables decorated with succulents in hand painted pots. The cute mini airstream trailer bar was open for business and a local folk/bluegrass band, Slim Pickin's band was playing on the stage.

Every single night we experienced an incredible sunset. The soon-to-be newlyweds took full advantage and headed out for romantic and fun photos each night. Guests were kept busy with lot's of delicious food, drinks, music and games!

And after two full days of celebrating Becca and Sander in the desert came the actually wedding day. We decided to have this day on a Sunday since the following Monday was a holiday. Might as well take full advantage of having all your guests in one place for a long weekend!

The ceremony took place on giant flat rock formations (sorry I don't have a scientific name for these!) with the most spectacular view of the Moab desert. We were right next to Arches National Park, yet still far away enough from tourists to enjoy the ceremony with friends and family only.

Fall Barn Wedding at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch

If this is what a barn wedding is all about, I'm ready to do many more! When I drove up the long dirt road through these spectacular wheat fields for Kristen and Scott's rehearsal at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch, I'm pretty sure I shed a few tears of joy. The sun was hitting the golden wheat so perfectly that I knew their wedding photos were going to be incredible. Ready to see this beauty?

It seems it doesn't take the guys as long to get ready so they made the most our of their free time before the ceremony started. There's a really cool vintage school bus that has been remodeled inside and it was the perfect hang out spot for the boys!

The Handmade Details

This couple was surrounded by very talented friends and family members. One bridesmaid put together all the florals and another bridesmaid made all of their wooden signage. Pretty amazing! Take a peek at some of the details inside this barn wedding.

The Best Ceremony of all times

I don't think I've laughed and cried like this at a ceremony in a long time. Kristen and Scott wrote their own vows and made them funny, personal and truly representative of each other as a couple. Most of the ceremony photos we have are of people laughing and crying!

The Cake

The Grand Finale for a lot of weddings is the wedding cake. I've actually noticed that older guests won't leave until after the cake has been cut and they've had a piece to celebrate the newlyweds! Since Kristen and Scott had a small cake for themselves and some family members, the rest of the guests got to enjoy some amazing ice cream from Negranti Ice Cream in the cutest truck ever!

Sneak Peeks: Our Rimrock Ranch Wedding Weekend!

A longer post will follow with all the juicy details of our Rimrock Ranch wedding weekend in the desert but for now I want to share some sneak peeks that I got this week from my amazing photographer and good friend, Chloe Moore.

rimrock ranch desert wedding couple in front of vintage bus

The Venue

I swear, Rimrock Ranch is one of those venues that doesn't require a lot of decor. It's just full of cool vintage cars and buses and eclectic decor all over the place. But the most beautiful part of this venue is that no matter what time of year you get married here, the sunsets will make all of your guests stop what they're doing and stare. That alone was worth every penny. Not to mention that the owners, Gwen and Eric are some of the nicest and coolest human beings ever!

The Experience

Are there some things that I could have done differently? Sure. But the whole weekend experience of being surrounded by this group of people that will NEVER again all be together at once was surreal and I wouldn't trade it for anything. There were SO.MANY.TEARS!

The Dancing

Half of my family is from Quebec, therefore speaks French so our DJ, Jack Farmer, played some awesome French songs and even our American family who didn't know the words started dancing. It was seriously so much fun! Oh and our dogs were wish us all weekend and were completely zonked on the ride home!

The macrame backdrop was the perfect addition to the weathered wooden wall and our florist, Hilary's Flowers and Such, added a little extra greenery and some delicate white orchids to pull it all together.

Hanna + Jesse’s Lemon Grove Wedding

This love story is as good as it gets! Hanna and Jesse met while working at lululemon a few years ago. Jesse and I were actually in the same hire group and Hanna was one of our mentors. Even though all the girls in the store had secret crushes on Jesse, he knew from the beginning that Hanna was the one.
