Intimate Wedding in Montreal with Geode Cake

So you're having an intimate wedding in Montreal? Lucky you! A while back I had the pleasure of doing a styled shoot with some talented wedding vendors in my hometown of Montreal, Quebec. The shoot was picked up and featured on The Perfect Palette but I wanted to post some of the photos here and hope they give you some ideas for your upcoming intimate wedding or elopement! I'm especially excited for you to see the geode cake!

The Ceremony

Vendors and our adorable bohemian couple came together at a cute (and very Quebecois) restaurant called Les Fillettes located in the heart of Montreal. The patio is absolutely perfect for a small ceremony up to 25 guests. I would recommend also serving a nice glass of champagne for everyone to enjoy while you say your "I Dos".

copper arch ceremony scroll on brick patio in Montreal

Let's talk about this ceremony backdrop for a hot second. Joy from Imagine Joy handmade this incredible wedding ceremony scroll which is basically a giant script with the couple's vows and love poems on it. Seriously stunning! What a great way to personalize a ceremony. I would also encourage couples to keep this and somehow incorporate it into their home design after the wedding.

The Table Top Design

We were really feeling inspired by tie dye for this wedding design. Believe it or not, I tie dyed these napkins myself! It was surprisingly easier than I thought. Maybe I can do a tutorial on it someday. Anyway, We wanted to bring in some woodsy elements like the wooden plates and pieces of ferns to decorate each place setting. I really like how it turned out. It has a really cozy yet boho vibe to it, don't you think?

The Dress & Suit

We wanted our bride and groom to look boho but not hobo! Our bride was wearing a gorgeous boho wedding gown with a front slip. We also added a fun hair piece and a hand chain to spice things up. Our handsome groom was in a dark navy suit and white shirt. We skipped the tie to make him feel more casual but added a spiky blue boutonniere for a little pizzaz.

The Geode Cake

No wedding is complete without a little sugar. This couple had one of the coolest geode cakes I've ever seen! This indigo and gold crystal cake has me drooling! At the same time, it's almost too pretty to touch. We topped it off with a "Cheers" cake topper and continued the celebration.

Hope this provided you with some fun boho inspiration for your own wedding!

Glamping Wedding at Moab Under Canvas

You probably hear us talking about Under Canvas weddings all the time on Instagram BUT we've never really blogged about them. Well today is the day! We're giving you a glimpse inside what it's like to have a wedding at Under Canvas Moab. Ready to get blown away?

bride and groom kiss in the desert at under canvas moab

Let's start by saying that Becca and Sander spent a year and a half planning this wedding all while Becca was attending NYU for Interior Design. This venue is spectacular in itself but in order to produce a 4-day wedding for 160 guests, it takes an experience wedding planning team (oh hi!) and a lot of coffee!

leather couch inside under canvas moab glamping tent

After guests checked into their gorgeous accommodations, we opened up the dining area and had long wooden tables decorated with succulents in hand painted pots. The cute mini airstream trailer bar was open for business and a local folk/bluegrass band, Slim Pickin's band was playing on the stage.

Every single night we experienced an incredible sunset. The soon-to-be newlyweds took full advantage and headed out for romantic and fun photos each night. Guests were kept busy with lot's of delicious food, drinks, music and games!

And after two full days of celebrating Becca and Sander in the desert came the actually wedding day. We decided to have this day on a Sunday since the following Monday was a holiday. Might as well take full advantage of having all your guests in one place for a long weekend!

The guys seemed to have a really great time getting ready in their tents. They even had a barrel of whiskey!

The ceremony took place on giant flat rock formations (sorry I don't have a scientific name for these!) with the most spectacular view of the Moab desert. We were right next to Arches National Park, yet still far away enough from tourists to enjoy the ceremony with friends and family only.

Fall Barn Wedding at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch

If this is what a barn wedding is all about, I'm ready to do many more! When I drove up the long dirt road through these spectacular wheat fields for Kristen and Scott's rehearsal at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch, I'm pretty sure I shed a few tears of joy. The sun was hitting the golden wheat so perfectly that I knew their wedding photos were going to be incredible. Ready to see this beauty?

Getting Ready on the Ranch

It seems it doesn't take the guys as long to get ready so they made the most our of their free time before the ceremony started. There's a really cool vintage school bus that has been remodeled inside and it was the perfect hang out spot for the boys!

An Intimate First Look

As we crept closer to the ceremony start time, we brought the bride and groom together for their First Look. Get the tissues because the groom's reaction had everyone in tears!

The Handmade Details

This couple was surrounded by very talented friends and family members. One bridesmaid put together all the florals and another bridesmaid made all of their wooden signage. Pretty amazing! Take a peek at some of the details inside this barn wedding.

The Best Ceremony of all times

I don't think I've laughed and cried like this at a ceremony in a long time. Kristen and Scott wrote their own vows and made them funny, personal and truly representative of each other as a couple. Most of the ceremony photos we have are of people laughing and crying!

The reception space was nothing short of spectacular. When the sun peeked through the old wooden doors, we could see the rays of sunshine spill onto the dinner tables. Pretty poetic, eh? See for yourself!

The Cake

The Grand Finale for a lot of weddings is the wedding cake. I've actually noticed that older guests won't leave until after the cake has been cut and they've had a piece to celebrate the newlyweds! Since Kristen and Scott had a small cake for themselves and some family members, the rest of the guests got to enjoy some amazing ice cream from Negranti Ice Cream in the cutest truck ever!

Colorful Indian-American Fusion Wedding in Palos Verdes, CA

By now you know that getting photo galleries back from wedding photographers is more exciting to me than Christmas morning. Seeing every wedding come to life is one of our favorite parts of our job.  You can imagine my excitement when I opened Robyn and Proteek's colorful Palos Verdes wedding gallery. FYI, their photographer, Bernadette of Bramble and Vine shot for 11 hours!

“This blog post contains affiliate links. If you click on one of them and make a purchase, I’ll receive a commission at no additional cost to you!"

Getting Ready by the Ocean

If you've never been to Palos Verdes, it's what I like the call, the "country side" of Los Angeles. What I mean by that is that it's full of great woodsy areas, hiking trails and horses (!). It just feels like we're out in the wilderness. Don't get me wrong, Palos Verdes also happens to be right on the coast too and has some of the most gorgeous ocean views. The drive along the coast there will take your breath away. The bride and groom rented a beautiful AirBnB near the South Coast Botanic Garden as their getting ready spot and it was stunning! For a closer look at the botanic garden, take a look at my engagement photo session.

Hindu Ceremony in the Garden

We had two ceremonies, two wardrobe changes, two first looks and one reception overlooking the ocean in Palos Verdes. Now that's a party! Robyn and Proteek chose to celebrate both of their cultures by starting the day with a Hindu ceremony at the South Coast Botanic Garden. If you are planning a wedding with multiple venues and wardrobe changes, maintaining your budget is an important part of the planning process. To make things easier, use our free Wedding Budget Guide.

The detail that goes into the traditional lehenga's are jaw dropping. Take a look at what the bride and groom wore. How beautiful are these?!

Wardrobe change: gown and suit

After the Hindu ceremony, the bride and groom had a wardrobe change back at the cute AirBnB. Moments later, they surprised each other with a First Look (or do we call this a Second Look?) in their American wedding outfits. brides edgy glam Badgley Mishka shoes and earrings

American Ceremony by the cliffs

I'm telling you, this Palos Verdes wedding experienced some of the most beautiful sceneries. Guests got to see a garden for the first portion of the day and then drove just 15 minutes away for a completely different view! The Point Vicente Interpretive Center was where Robyn and Proteek chose to have their 2nd ceremony and reception. You're about to see why they picked it.

Wedding Reception overlooking the ocean

It keeps getting better! Thanks to all the great vendors on this team, we transformed the quaint reception room into a beautiful wedding reception hall. DJ Jack Farmer kept the party going under the stars outside after dinner and the light ocean breeze kept everyone nice and cool. Another thing I loved about this wedding was that the first part of the day was full of decorations, colors and details. The reception was very classy and elegant but simple and not over-the-top. When you're planning a fusion wedding, I think it's a great idea to have a balance of both the minimal and very glammed up decor. Here are some of our wedding day must-haves for any reception!

Merari + Fernando’s Initmate TreePeople Park Wedding

Ok full confession: this wedding happened a couple of years ago BUT it's still one of my favorites because it was small, intimate and full of natural beauty. Merari and Fernando chose to have their ceremony at TreePeople Park in the Santa Monica Mountains which overlooked all of Los Angeles. It was stunning and just full of wildlife! The cocktail hour and reception were held in the coolest private room at Cecconi's West Hollywood. Take a look at this beautiful and intimate Los Angeles wedding:

Getting Ready

The bride got ready at her beautiful bright apartment in Marina Del Rey, CA. Her dress was actually a 2-piece short dress + skirt combo which I am obsessed with!

The First Look was done at TreePeople Park with an absolutely gorgeous view. Did you know that TreePeople Park is first and foremost a non profit that bring the LA community together to plant trees, renew landscapes and harvest rain water?

The Ceremony on top of TreePeople Park

Since the trails don't have a ton of room for wedding rentals, we opted for a few benches and a small arch with simple florals. Merari's father walked her down the path, around the corner and down the aisle.

Romantic photos at sunset

We can't resist a good sunset on top of a mountain. TreePeople Park has a million places you could take photos. Their photographer, Chloe, found the perfect spots to capture both the view and sunset during their romantic photos.

Chelsea + Patrick’s Woodsy Big Sur Wedding

As soon as Fall comes around, I always want to put on some cozy leggings, a loose sweater and head up to the mountains. The air is crisper, the leaves actually change color and coffee just tastes better when it's cold out. This recent change of weather made me think of Chelsea and Patrick's beautiful wedding in Big Sur, CA. These two Hawaiian yogis tied the knot at The Ventana Inn and it is still, to this day, one of my all-time favorites.

A woodsy and rainy first look

The plan was to have a rain-free weekend with a ceremony under the trees and a reception outside on the patio of the Ventana Inn overlooking the ocean. Well, Mother Nature had a different plan but luckily this couple went with the flow and it turned out to be an incredible wedding weekend nonetheless!

Rain or shine, Chelsea and Patrick were getting married! How adorable was that First Look at Glen Oaks? The girls all stopped getting ready to take a peek. Not gonna lie, I was also peeking from behind a tree.

The ceremony

Originally, we were going to have the ceremony under some of the tall redwoods and we tried so hard to keep the rain away with all sorts of dances and chants but unfortunately it didn't work. Instead, we escorted guests into a small yet cozy community hall near by and it turned out really fun and colorful.

The reception at the Ventana Inn

The reception took place at the Ventana Inn where we got a clear tent and live music to keep everyone dancing. We set up the long dinner tables inside where it was warm and cozy. Although it wasn't part of the plan to have dinner inside, the log-cabin feel of the room went really well with our decor.

Take a closer look at these table "numbers". Each table had a beautiful photo that the couple took of some of their favorite travel places. Such a great way to add a personal touch!

Rain or shine, they danced!

Even with the change in weather, they still danced, ate, drank and ended the night as husband and wife. It was a good wedding to remind myself how amazing my last few years of clients have been. They've been ready to go with the flow and are just so happy to be together with their friends and family. And a little rain doesn't put a damper on their big day!

Heather + Gabe’s Colorful Summer Wedding

Ok, I know, Summer is over but with the weather we just had this past week, it kind feels like August all over again! Speaking of August, today I'm sharing Heather and Gabe's colorful summertime reception at the South Coast Botanic Garden. Oh and that dress? SO PRETTY! Wait until you see how it transforms for dancing.

Then came the First Look. One of my favorite parts of a wedding. We had a First Look for our wedding and I felt 100 lbs lighter after it. It's so good to see your fiancé and it really helps calm nerves. It also makes for incredible and emotional photos!

The reception details

The couple chose to have a private ceremony a week before and wanted to celebrate their marriage in a beautiful outdoor setting which is why they chose to have their reception at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes, CA.

round tables and wooden chairs for garden wedding

The bride, Heather, found all of these blue bottles at different thrift stores and shops over the course of several months. She kept costs down by buying her own flowers for the centerpieces and adding a cool blue and white patterned table cloth overlay and marble table numbers. Each table was equipped with a shot glass and disposable camera that guests used throughout the night. I hope those photos turned out good!

This crafty couple also took the time to make their own seating chart with screws spelling out their names, how cool is that? The signage at this wedding was all really good. I love the clever Hasta Luego sign.

We snuck the couple away to the cactus garden for some gorgeous sunset photos and then brought them back for a fun grand entrance followed by some dancing! Photographer tip: definitely scout this venue before you shoot a wedding there because there are 87 acres of garden and you may want to take your couples out into a different part of the Garden for those golden hour photos!

Sneak Peeks: Our Rimrock Ranch Wedding Weekend!

A longer post will follow with all the juicy details of our Rimrock Ranch wedding weekend in the desert but for now I want to share some sneak peeks that I got this week from my amazing photographer and good friend, Chloe Moore.

rimrock ranch desert wedding couple in front of vintage bus

The Venue

I swear, Rimrock Ranch is one of those venues that doesn't require a lot of decor. It's just full of cool vintage cars and buses and eclectic decor all over the place. But the most beautiful part of this venue is that no matter what time of year you get married here, the sunsets will make all of your guests stop what they're doing and stare. That alone was worth every penny. Not to mention that the owners, Gwen and Eric are some of the nicest and coolest human beings ever!

The Experience

Are there some things that I could have done differently? Sure. But the whole weekend experience of being surrounded by this group of people that will NEVER again all be together at once was surreal and I wouldn't trade it for anything. There were SO.MANY.TEARS!

ceremony at rimrock ranch in front of joshua tree

The Dancing

Half of my family is from Quebec, therefore speaks French so our DJ, Jack Farmer, played some awesome French songs and even our American family who didn't know the words started dancing. It was seriously so much fun! Oh and our dogs were wish us all weekend and were completely zonked on the ride home!

Sneak Peek: Robyn + Proteek’s Palos Verdes Wedding

As I'm writing, I'm listening to a little Spotify station I call "Booty Swing" (just trust me, it's amazing) and devouring an unhealthy amount of cheese and crackers. Just another Thursday night! But really, I'm not complaining one bit because I got a few sneak peeks back from Robyn and Proteek's breathtaking Palos Verdes wedding and I get to share them with you!

I can't wait to tell you all about the details that went into this wedding. For now, I'll just mention that Robyn and Proteek had a Hindu ceremony at the South Coast Botanic Garden where their friends and family were surrounded by so much natural beauty and vibrant colors.

Following this was a wardrobe change and the western ceremony by the cliffs of Palos Verdes at the Point Vincente Interpretive Center. As we got close to the coast, the hot sun disappeared behind the clouds and made for some really amazing photos.

The partied continued at this coastal venue where guests got to enjoy cocktails and a full dinner reception inside that cozy Interpretive Center and end the night by dancing under the stars!

Arwa + Zohaile’s Intimate Woodsy Ojai Wedding

Sometimes a destination wedding doesn't actually have to be very far from home. It also doesn't mean it has to be on a beach resort in Mexico. Arwa and Zohaile live in San Diego but wanted to have their guests come together and enjoy the beautiful Ojai area and the views of the Los Padres National Forest. Lucky for them, Zohaile's family has a Ranch right in the heart of Ojai that fit the description perfectly.

Arwa and Zohaile come from two incredible cultures rich in traditions. They chose to incorporate pieces of them during the ceremony but also add new ones, like a tree planting, to truly make it their own.

Arwa chose to get ready at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa (one of the most beautiful resorts ever) just a few miles down the road from the wedding venue. Rich with greenery, trees and natural light, it's a photographer's dream place for those candid getting ready photos. The bride and groom also did their First Look there to be able to have a few moments together before joining their friends and family at the Ranch.

While all of this gorgeousness was happening at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, the 'Cause We Can Events team and other vendors were busy setting up and making Arwa and Zohaile's wedding vision come alive. The overall wedding design was a little bit of rustic charm with some bohemian vibes and a whole bunch of natural beauty. We wanted to create a super cozy space for friends and family to enjoy.

As guests arrived at the private venue, they were encouraged to sign a Jenga piece as the guestbook. Such a fun idea! Our bartending team from The Events Boutique welcomed everyone with handcrafted lavender mojitos that were incredible! The mint was fresh from the Ranch's garden and picked only minutes before the event started. Yum!

The ceremony itself was a beautiful blend of cultural traditions and the union of two beautiful souls.

The food from The Lime Truck was SO good! Guests enjoyed something like 5 courses of fresh Mexican fusion dishes. For dessert, some traditional Persian cookies and tea along with a modern donut wall were served! Guests actually dined on top of the pool which we had covered by Persiano Event Rentals.

We had such a wonderful time being Arwa and Zohaile's wedding coordinators and being part of such a cool, adventurous couple's wedding day. We even got to stay in yurt while we were in Ojai so that was an added bonus! Thank you to Laura Goldenberger for always capturing the most perfect moments.
