Alternative Wedding with Tattoos, Arcade Games and Smoke Bombs!

If this wedding doesn't make you want to party, then I don't know what will. They had everything you need for a killer wedding party: good food, good drinks and good music. However, what really made their reception go from good to EPIC was the surprise entertainment for guests at the end. Check it out!

Getting Ready

The bride and her tribe got ready in the cute loft area of their wedding venue, Smoky Hollow Studios. The bride did her own makeup because, listen, when you know how to do good makeup you just do it yourself amiright?! Can we talk about those leather jackets tho? Holy smokes! The bride printed the pattern and painted them herself.

The guys don't require quite as much "getting ready time" so we took them out for a little photoshoot after they got their suits on. You might be thinking "wow these guys look like they could be in a band together". Spoiler alert: they are! P.S Tyler is a fellow Canadian so I really appreciated his socks.

The Ceremony

The walk down the aisle was both dramatic and romantic. I love that Katy chose a really glam ballgown with a sweetheart neckline to show off her tattoos. Her moody bouquet with deep tones paired so well with the edginess of the venue too.

The Details

When designing this wedding I knew the couple wanted to incorporate deep red tones, greenery and use the industrial vibe of the venue to their advantage. We opted for black dinner plates, deep red napkins and edgy glassware on long wooden farm tables.

Surprise Entertainment

Ok so I know you're really wondering "what was the surprise entertainment"?? Well folks, here you go! Feast your eyes on what made this wedding the MOST fun: ARCADE GAMES! They had everything from skee ball to Jurassic Park and even Mortal Combat!

Intimate Bohemian Laguna Beach, California Elopement

When Sammy and Joel asked if we would help them plan their Laguna Beach elopement because they live in Australia, we jumped for joy! Elopements are a wedding planner's dream come true. We get to do some styling, find really cool places for dinner and intimate settings for a ceremony and only have to worry about 4-10 guests!

Bride and groom kiss on rocky cliff in Laguna Beach Elopement

The day started out with the girls getting their hair and makeup done with probably the best ocean view you could ask for in Laguna Beach! We popped some rosé and put on some good girly tunes to get everyone excited for the day ahead. One thing I love about elopements is that you have a lot more time to take it easy in the morning and hang out with your bestie.

The boys got ready ready in the next room over and I had to help them with a double windsor tie knot. NO CLUE WHAT THAT WAS ha! Thank you Google. After a few failed attempts, we succeeded and the groom and his best man looked so dapper!

Once everyone was ready, we left the Pacific Edge Hotel and drove a few miles down the road to Crescent Bay Beach where we set up for the intimate ceremony. How adorable was Joel's reaction when he saw his bride, Sammy for the first time!!?
TIP: Make sure to check with the city about any permits that might be required when doing events on public beaches!

Bride walks down the beach and sees her groom for the first time in Laguna Beach

After the long, beautiful walk down the beach, the ceremony began and it was lead by my all-time favorite yogi & officiant, Matt. I had the pleasure of holding up the couple's phone so that their families could be Skyped in all the way from Australia!

We had to make sure they took full advantage of this beach setting so their photographer, Lauren, took them for a little adventure around the beautiful Laguna Beach cliffs. Check these photos out!

We truly had a blast with these two Australian beauties and loved creating a fun and unique elopement experience for them. What I love even more about elopements like this is that we really get to spend time with the couples and just "hang out"! We all had dinner together the night before their wedding and watched the sunset over the Pacific Ocean which is always a treat in my books.

Modern Navy and Grey Wedding at The Colony House

He was from LA, and she was from the Bay. Two different lifestyles over 400 miles apart, but the one thing that bonded them through the distance was their love for basketball. It played a huge part in their relationship as they both grew up playing and watching the game, and then playing with/watching each other as they got older! This past summer, we helped celebrate their love with their old teammates, friends, and family at The Colony House in Anaheim and it was nothing short of an amazing night.

Getting ready for an intimate First Look

Janet and Chris got ready at the Marriott in Fullerton and then headed over to The Colony House to take some photos. The Colony House has a really cool upstairs loft area which is where the couple had their First Look. Grab the tissues because it was such a tear-jerking moment!

Picture-perfect moments

Some things I absolutely love about this venue are the glass walls and windows, plentiful lighting, and beautiful exterior that made for perfect backdrops. Our photographer was able to capture so many great shots of the couple, bridal party, and family.

Guests were singing and dancing to each other from across tables and I could not stop laughing. They were having so much fun, and we were having so much fun watching them.

Desserts included donut holes from Café Dulce and an ice cream sammich bar from Chunk-n-Chip set up on the patio. Talk about delish! But first, can we talk about how gorgeous this cake from Torrance Bakery was?

Bohemian Wedding at Smoky Hollow Studios

Kate said she wanted a man that was smart, funny, handsome, and from the South. Lucky for her, she found her dream man! Clem checked all the boxes off on her list, and he lived right here in the South Bay. It was only fitting that they celebrate their love locally with their friends and family, and they could not have picked a more perfect venue: Smoky Hollow Studios.

Getting Ready

Kate and Clem got ready at their home nearby, but arrived at Smoky Hollow Studios a bit earlier to take some pre-ceremony photos with each other and with the bridal party. A couple things I love about this venue is the upstairs loft that we used as the bridal suite, and the fact that the exterior is so beautiful and has so many cool places for photos. Check them out below!

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place on the patio right outside the studio. Guests gathered around on the patio while the couple exchanged vows from inside. From where we stood, this was our view. It was definitely cozy but it made for a very intimate setting.

From guests’ point of view, the couple actually stood above eye-level because the studio itself is on raised grounds. With the sunlight hitting perfectly and the beautiful interior of the venue in the background, it made it so much easier to ooh and ahh about this special moment—and so hard not to cry!

The Reception

Another thing I love about this venue is that we were able to create the ceremony and reception in one space. So after the ceremony, guests came back inside for the reception. Take a close look at some of the details of this bohemian-themed wedding. All the furniture, tables chairs, bars, couches etc. are included in the venue which is really amazing.

Party time!

After a delicious BBQ dinner from Baby Blues BBQ, it was time to party! I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun just WATCHING everyone have fun! This crowd sang and danced the night away to classics and when I tell you that everyone was on the dance floor, I mean EVERYONE!

The Cake

This couple decided not to have the big traditional wedding cake. Instead, they went for something smaller, tastier, and easier to eat (and cut!) – good ol’ Sweet Potato Pie! They also had several mini pies as desserts for guests, all from Know Reality Pie.

Clare + Vito’s Winter Wedding at Smoky Hollow Studios

When they say Southern California wedding season is year round, they -whoever they are- would be correct! This year we were lucky enough to do a couple January weddings and one of them was at my favorite South Bay venue, Smoky Hollow Studios.

Modern winter wedding at Smoky Hollow Studios

Getting Ready in Style

I would say it's not impossible to have a fully outdoor wedding in January but it's definitely risky! Clare and Vito decided to place it safe and opted to have their ceremony at the stunning St Monica's Catholic Church followed by a trendy and modern reception at Smoky Hollow Studios. But first, the bride and groom got ready at the Palihouse in Santa Monica which is such a cool space!

It was my first time at the St Monica's Catholic Church and I was in awe. This 132 year old church is full of life and has incredible details on the inside.

Romantic Beach Photos

After the ceremony, the bride and groom stopped by the beach for some romantic photos before being shuttled to the reception venue for dinner and dancing!

I always love when photographers use the brick walls and metal structures around Smoky Hollow Studios for photos. It gives the wedding an edgy yet modern look to it.

Navy and White Reception Details

The bride spent a lot of time thinking about her wedding details and it was so worth it! Check out the fun navy and glitter details sprinkled around the reception space.

The Cake

Let's take a look at this cake, shall we? I love how simple it was but how well it went with the rest of the decor. Along with "hangover kits" and much needed dancing flip flops, each guest got to leave with a key that doubled as a bottle opener as their favor. How cool is that!

Fall Barn Wedding at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch

If this is what a barn wedding is all about, I'm ready to do many more! When I drove up the long dirt road through these spectacular wheat fields for Kristen and Scott's rehearsal at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch, I'm pretty sure I shed a few tears of joy. The sun was hitting the golden wheat so perfectly that I knew their wedding photos were going to be incredible. Ready to see this beauty?

It seems it doesn't take the guys as long to get ready so they made the most our of their free time before the ceremony started. There's a really cool vintage school bus that has been remodeled inside and it was the perfect hang out spot for the boys!

An Intimate First Look

The Handmade Details

This couple was surrounded by very talented friends and family members. One bridesmaid put together all the florals and another bridesmaid made all of their wooden signage. Pretty amazing! Take a peek at some of the details inside this barn wedding.

The Best Ceremony of all times

I don't think I've laughed and cried like this at a ceremony in a long time. Kristen and Scott wrote their own vows and made them funny, personal and truly representative of each other as a couple. Most of the ceremony photos we have are of people laughing and crying!

The Cake

The Grand Finale for a lot of weddings is the wedding cake. I've actually noticed that older guests won't leave until after the cake has been cut and they've had a piece to celebrate the newlyweds! Since Kristen and Scott had a small cake for themselves and some family members, the rest of the guests got to enjoy some amazing ice cream from Negranti Ice Cream in the cutest truck ever!

Is a Wedding Planner’s Personality More Important Than Their Portfolio

I'll be the first to admit that I judge a book by it's cover. I also judge a bottle of wine by it's label and a coffee shop by it's decor. It's only natural that we are drawn to people, places and products that look good and are well presented. When it comes to wedding vendors and other wedding planners, I'll be honest, I absolutely judge them by their website. Well, at least in terms of first impressions. But here's the thing, someone could have an absolutely gorgeous website and Instagram page but when you actually meet them in person or on the phone, you have absolutely nothing in common. Yikes! So, the other day, I met up with a few wedding planner friends and we talked about how important it is to connect personality-wise with your clients. Here's why.

We are your wedding confidant

A lot of times, you (the couple) is dealing with family drama around the wedding and you may not have anyone to turn to who's not involved in it. As wedding planners, we often play that role of third party unbiased therapist to the couple. We have to develop some level of trust with you so that you can feel comfortable coming to us with anything that's on your mind. A lot of times, wedding planners are working with couples one year or more (I definitely do with all my Full Planning and Destination clients) before their wedding day so that bond needs to be strong! We are the person you can rely on that always had a backup plan so you can focus on enjoying your day.

We are your wedding eyes and ears

To say that we have our finger on the pulse when it comes to the wedding industry is an understatement. Every wedding planner I know is in about 10+ Facebook groups (including one I even created for Adventurous Weddings!), gets invited to venue openings, gets to attend weekly catering tastings and seems to notice all latest wedding trends pop up in her inbox. Trust us to show you the latest trends, but we also want you to feel like you can tell us when sometime just doesn't feel like you or you straight up don't like it!

We need to be honest with you

With a certain level of trust comes a certain level of honesty. We find it so important to tell you when something is a great idea but also when it's probably not the best. Although it's not always fun to do, wedding planners have to tell their clients when a certain vendor might be out of their budget for example. With that being said, if you don't mesh with your planner it's a lot harder to be honest with one another.

Last but not least

What I really want you to realize is that, yes, a gorgeous website and stunning photo galleries of past weddings are important. But, finding a connection with your wedding planner will go far beyond just your wedding day. It will help them make decisions with your best interest in mind, you will feel like you're planning your wedding with a friend instead of a random person and you may even stay in touch after the big day because of common interests. Hope this was helpful and happy planning!

Spicy Love Wedding at Smoky Hollow Studios

Sweet Love is so passé, Spicy love is what 2017 was all about! I had a blast working with Leslie and Matt on their Smoky Hollow Studio wedding back in October. As a couple, Matt and Leslie were hilarious and so easy to work with. A wedding planner's dream couple if you ask me! This wedding was fully of beautiful traditions, a ton of creativity but also a bit of edginess.

Getting ready in style

The gang started their getting ready party at nearby hotel but met up in the ultra cool bridal suite at Smoky Hollow Studios for photos. I just love the moodiness and texture that this bridal suite has. Although you're only allow to have 20 people up there at a time, it's perfect for bridal party photos!

Romantic ceremony

While everyone was getting dolled up, the 'Cause We Can Events team was busy setting up for the ceremony downstairs. We had about 100 guests attending this wedding which was perfect for this venue. We set up the ceremony chairs in front of the big glass garage doors which allowed for a nice long walk down the aisle. Once the ceremony was over, we just needed to flip the space into the reception by placing the same chairs at the tables.

Reception details + cocktails

While the newlyweds and their families took photos all around the wedding venue, the guests got to enjoy some yummy cocktails crafted by Cali Craft Cocktails. Leslie and Matt had a lot of cute and personalized details. From their original post card sign in book to their chalkboard art, they thought of it all. One of the coolest details though, were the centerpieces. Each table had a lantern and inside was a vintage cake topper that from past weddings or great thrift store finds. How freakin' cool is that!?

Colorful Indian-American Fusion Wedding in Palos Verdes, CA

By now you know that getting photo galleries back from wedding photographers is more exciting to me than Christmas morning. Seeing every wedding come to life is one of our favorite parts of our job.  You can imagine my excitement when I opened Robyn and Proteek's colorful Palos Verdes wedding gallery. Getting Ready by the Ocean

If you've never been to Palos Verdes, it's what I like the call, the "country side" of Los Angeles. What I mean by that is that it's full of great woodsy areas, hiking trails and horses (!). It just feels like we're out in the wilderness. Don't get me wrong, Palos Verdes also happens to be right on the coast too and has some of the most gorgeous ocean views. The drive along the coast there will take your breath away. The bride and groom rented a beautiful AirBnB near the South Coast Botanic Garden as their getting ready spot and it was stunning! For a closer look at the botanic garden, take a look at my engagement photo session.

Hindu Ceremony in the Garden

We had two ceremonies, two wardrobe changes, two first looks and one reception overlooking the ocean in Palos Verdes. Now that's a party! Robyn and Proteek chose to celebrate both of their cultures by starting the day with a Hindu ceremony at the South Coast Botanic Garden. If you are planning a wedding with multiple venues and wardrobe changes, maintaining your budget is an important part of the planning process. The detail that goes into the traditional lehenga's are jaw dropping. Take a look at what the bride and groom wore. How beautiful are these?!

Wardrobe change: gown and suit

After the Hindu ceremony, the bride and groom had a wardrobe change back at the cute AirBnB. Moments later, they surprised each other with a First Look (or do we call this a Second Look?) in their American wedding outfits.

American Ceremony by the cliffs

I'm telling you, this Palos Verdes wedding experienced some of the most beautiful sceneries. Guests got to see a garden for the first portion of the day and then drove just 15 minutes away for a completely different view! The Point Vicente Interpretive Center was where Robyn and Proteek chose to have their 2nd ceremony and reception. You're about to see why they picked it.

Wedding Reception overlooking the ocean

It keeps getting better! Thanks to all the great vendors on this team, we transformed the quaint reception room into a beautiful wedding reception hall. DJ Jack Farmer kept the party going under the stars outside after dinner and the light ocean breeze kept everyone nice and cool. Another thing I loved about this wedding was that the first part of the day was full of decorations, colors and details. The reception was very classy and elegant but simple and not over-the-top. When you're planning a fusion wedding, I think it's a great idea to have a balance of both the minimal and very glammed up decor. Here are some of our wedding day must-haves for any reception!

We did the Grand Entrance on the outdoor patio of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in hopes that we would see some whales go by (we didn't) and then couldn't resist going into a mini dance party!

Merari + Fernando’s Initmate TreePeople Park Wedding

Ok full confession: this wedding happened a couple of years ago BUT it's still one of my favorites because it was small, intimate and full of natural beauty. Merari and Fernando chose to have their ceremony at TreePeople Park in the Santa Monica Mountains which overlooked all of Los Angeles. It was stunning and just full of wildlife! The cocktail hour and reception were held in the coolest private room at Cecconi's West Hollywood. Take a look at this beautiful and intimate Los Angeles wedding:

Getting Ready

The bride got ready at her beautiful bright apartment in Marina Del Rey, CA. Her dress was actually a 2-piece short dress + skirt combo which I am obsessed with!

The First Look with a view

The First Look was done at TreePeople Park with an absolutely gorgeous view. Did you know that TreePeople Park is first and foremost a non profit that bring the LA community together to plant trees, renew landscapes and harvest rain water?

The Ceremony on top of TreePeople Park

Since the trails don't have a ton of room for wedding rentals, we opted for a few benches and a small arch with simple florals. Merari's father walked her down the path, around the corner and down the aisle.

Romantic photos at sunset

We can't resist a good sunset on top of a mountain. TreePeople Park has a million places you could take photos. Their photographer, Chloe, found the perfect spots to capture both the view and sunset during their romantic photos.

Eclectic Reception in West Hollywood
